Ravenswood Icon Syrah

This wine was originally purchased by Moxie a couple of months back after a tasting. It sat on the rack for a couple of weeks. One night we opened it, drank it, and loved it. We spent the next morning driving to the three places that we regularly buy wine until we found it again. Then we purchased all they had.

We took a bottle of this with us last night to dinner and all enjoyed it. I only wish we brought more. We have the 2001. 2001 was a great year for Syrah; in fact the 2001 Shiraz was the wine that got me drinking wine. This is called a syrah but is actually a blend of 88% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre and, 6% Grenache.

This is a great bottle. It is not too sweet or sour, but is earthy with a lot of fruit. The body is very full and a little smoky. It is describe as having a dark berry, black cherry, and plum bouquet. I get a little of those. I get a lot of the spice and smoke though.

This is extremely enjoyable and good with food. It goes quick though so be careful. We have served this on more than one occasion and brought it with us on others. It is a staple good wine to have on hand. I hope the 2002 and later, are as good, or better. It is bargain bottle of wine at $16.99 and worth every penny.
